Lead with relevant experience

Start with the role you are applying for and the experience that best matches it. A short profile can summarise your field, strengths, and the type of work you do well. Avoid generic claims such as “hard-working team player” unless you support them with evidence.

For each recent role, use a few concise bullets to describe what you owned and what changed as a result. Be accurate about your contribution and use figures only when you can explain where they came from.

Show how you work across distance

Remote work is not one fixed set of personality traits. Depending on the job, useful evidence might include writing clear handovers, documenting decisions, coordinating across time zones, managing a customer queue, or delivering work against agreed milestones.

Describe a specific example rather than adding a list of vague keywords. For instance, explain how you kept a project moving when colleagues were not online at the same time, or how you made a process easier for someone else to follow.

Keep the format readable

Use familiar section headings, consistent dates, and a simple layout that works on a phone and when copied into an application form. Put contact details and relevant links where they are easy to find. Check that portfolio links open and do not require access you have not granted.

Use the language of the advert when it accurately describes your experience. Keyword matching can help an employer find relevant evidence, but repeating phrases or claiming skills you do not have makes the application less trustworthy.

Address location and availability clearly

Remote vacancies may still be limited by country, time zone, work authorisation, or set working hours. State your location and any relevant work eligibility when the application asks. Do not include sensitive identity or banking information on a CV.

Tailor with a short checklist

Before sending, compare your CV with the role requirements. Move the most relevant example higher, remove unrelated detail that makes the CV harder to scan, check spelling and dates, and make sure every claim is true. Keep a copy of the advert so you can prepare for later stages.
